Island Batik and Eye of the Beholder: A Stunning Combination
Mulberry Elegance shines through in our Radiance, Medallion V pattern done by machine reverse applique and Island Batiks wonderful fabrics that debut at Fall Market/2015, Houston.
For me it began last spring. My Radiance design was accepted by Island Batik to highlight fabrics in their fall collection. I chose fabrics from their Hollywood Hills collection. I loved the Mulberry warmth for the top fabric and a golden tan for the background.
To create this piece, I decided to do our machine process of Trace, Iron, Snip & Stitch with Appli-quilting.
I traced the design onto the paper-side of my soft fuse iron-on fusible.
Then I ironed it onto the wrong side of the top fabric.
Taking my small, sharp scissors in hand, I cut the shapes in the design out. Next to peel the paper off, and iron the fused top onto the background fabric.
I intended to Appli-quilt this piece, so I layered the top with batting and backing.
To my machine.
I chose a mulberry wine colored thread to satin stitch the raw edges. Because the piece was already layered, this quilted it at the same time.
I trimmed the piece to its 26" finish size, and bound it with a golden brown/orange binding.
This piece will also be turned into Laser Cut Kits for those who want the warm elegance without the hassle. They will be available on our website soon. (Shop owners may order Laser Cut Kits from us at Fall Market in our booth #2811.)
