Have creative fun making a mola with Festive Bloom Mola! A mola is a colorful, multi-layered reverse applique piece for hand stitching. They were made famous by the Kuna Indians of Panama.

This pattern includes 3 pattern designs to choose from:

  • 2 Mola designs for copying

  • a plain design affording you complete creative freedom .

No matter which pattern you choose, you simply trace, layer, baste, cut and stitch through the layers, creating as you go.

Fabric Requirements

  • Top Fabric: 1 - FQ - 1/2 yd. Square Black/ dark batik (1/2 yd gives you enough for a backing)*

  • Middle fabric: 1 - FQ - Square Yellow/ bright batik

  • Background Fabric: 1 - FQ - Square Purple/ bright batik

  • Accent Fabric:1 FE (6" x 6") squares Blue batik, circles

  • *Backing Fabric: 17" x 17" square

  • Batting: 17" x 17" square

Notions: Thread- Basting: button or quilting thread in contrast to top fabrics; Applique: thread for stitching in same color as top and accent fabrics. Needles- Basting: No. 7 Sharps; Applique: No. 11 Milliner's
