It’s an 8” x 8” mola mug rug created using our easier methods!
Molas are colorful, multi-layered reverse applique pieces for hand stitching. They were made famous by the Kuna Indians of Panama.
This pattern includes 4 pattern designs to choose from:
a plain design affording you complete creative freedom
3 Mola designs for copying .
No matter which pattern you choose, you simply trace, layer, baste, snip and stitch through the layers, creating as you go.

Fabric Requirements
Top Fabric: 1 - 9” x 9” sq. - 1 FE - Black/ dark batik (FE gives you enough for a backing)*
Middle fabric: 1 - 9” x 9” sq. - 1 FQ - Purple/ bright batik (FQ gives you enough for a binding)
Background Fabric: 1 - 9” x 9”sq. - FE - Green/ bright batik
Accent Fabric:1 - 6" x 6" sq. - 1 F16th Blue batik, applique circle(s)
*Backing Fabric: 9" x 9" square
Batting: 9" x 9" square
Notions: Thread- Basting: button or quilting thread in contrast to top fabrics; Applique: thread for stitching in same color as top and accent fabrics. Needles- Basting: No. 7 Sharps; Applique: No. 11 Milliner's
