WELCOME to QuiltFest Virtual Schoolhouse #2

The second QuiltFest Virtual Schoolhouse will take place, ONLINE, May 11-14, 2022.

Mancuso Show Management is no stranger to online quilting and textile arts seminars. They've learned that many students enjoy learning new and exciting techniques from the comfort of their homes. The great strength of this platform is that both instructors and students do not have any country borders or cultural barriers to their participation from around the world.

Put on the tea and get comfortable in your PJs and slippers, and join us for another of the Virtual Schoolhouse series.I have two exciting workshops coming up in May at the Mancuso Quiltfest Virtual Schoolhouse #2. It takes place May 11 – 14.  It’s completely virtual, so you can join me from wherever you live to take a great workshop.

A version of the Festive Bloom Mola with black top, yellow middle layer, purple background, green inserted between the layers for the leaves, and turquoise appliqued on top of the petal middles.

I’m excited to announce that I’m teaching two workshops at the Mancuso Quiltfest Virtual Schoolhouse #2, May 11 - 14, 2022. The two workshops I’m teaching are Holy Mola! Make the Festive Bloom Mola and Crowning Glory! The Pineapple.

Holy Mola! Make the Festive Bloom Mola is a wonderfully fun and creative hand class. No machine needed.

Molas are multi-layered, brightly colored reverse applique pieces best known in connection with the Kuna Indians from Panama. They are created by cutting down through the layers and stitching the upper layer onto the underneath layer by hand. We’ll look at how to think through the process from start to finish.

Another version of the Festive Bloom Mola. Orange background, turquoise middle layer, purple top with green inserted between the layers for the leaves and appliqued on top for the leaf stems.

Everyone starts with the same pattern, but how your Mola finishes will be totally up to you and your imagination. To the right are two possibilities to fuel your imagination. Students will learn our easy 4-step trace, baste, snip & stitch method for hand reverse applique that’s easy and fun to make thei Molas.

Molas typically have a dark top and two other bright contrasting fabrics. You’ll need 3 FQ’s of batiks and then some smaller batik squares to have on hand to play with as possibilities for leaves and accents. The required kit has your pattern, one each of the hand sewing needles you’ll need and a spool of basting thread.

Holy Mola! Make the Festive Bloom Mola is a class full of creative possibilities that I will be teaching on Thursday, May 12, from noon – 6 pm (EST).Register for Holy Mola! Make the Festive Bloom Mola by clicking here - www.quiltfest.com.

I am also teaching Crowning Glory! The Pineapple for machine reverse applique. Pineapples are a symbol of hospitality and welcome. This is a multi-dimensional block that is excerpted from the Hospitality Quilt, Students will learn how to easily create the multiple fabric dimensions by combining applique with reverse applique and under-coloring. You’ll learn our 4-step trace, snip, iron & stitch method for machine reverse applique, and satin stitching techniques so you’ll get consistent results on corners, points and curves.

The pdf pattern is included in the cost of the class.  You’ll need 2 FQ, plus 3 smaller pieces of fabric for the pineapple pieces and the leaves. All these items, and others needed, are detailed on the supply list on www.Quiltfest.com.

There is an optional fabric kit available, in the original Cherrywood Fabrics for those interested. Kit information is on the Quiltfest website. Click here - www.quiltfest.com.

I will be teaching Crowning Glory! The Pineapple on Saturday, May 14, Noon – 6 pm (EST). Register for Crowning Glory! The Pineapple by clicking here - www.quiltfest,com
