Take a walk in the woods in the cool of the day.
Difficulty: Beginner - Machine, Beginner - Hand
reverse applique pattern - hand and machine directions
(14" x 56")
The lush marbling of these Malaysian marbled batiks recalled my walks in the woods by streams dripping with the cool of fiddle ferns. So this design came out of my idea and merged with these artisan fabrics by Turtle Hand Batiks to bring you Woodland Fern table runner. The 9 1/2” x 16” Fern and Fern Reverse Blocks sweep and bow with peek-a-boo reverse applique that can be created by hand or machine, to reveal marbled yellow. Lay it out as we have, or come up with a layout of your own design. Easily make it longer or shorter depending upon the number of blocks you choose to make, or make a whole bed quilt of sweeping ferns.
Pattern has complete creation instructions using Eye of the Beholder’s Trace, Baste, Snip & Stitch technique, supported by Technique Tutorials and blogs on this website, and full-size, durable pattern pieces. There’s never a need to enlarge the pattern or re-position fabric.
Try it with the lovely fabrics we chose from Turtle Hand Batiks, or create it in a palette that graces your home.

Reverse appliqué pattern – Hand directions & paper-piecing
(50" x 50")
ILegacy is a confident intermediate - advanced level medallion-style quilt for hand reverse applique. The pattern was inspired by a family Scherenschnitte dated 1817 to announce the birth of Hannah Grover Lauck on September 19. The pattern has complete how-to directions, but you can also see our blogs & technique tutorials to find out more. We were inspired to bring this design to life by the fabrics from Batik Textile’s , Spring 2019. Your fabric choices will make it come alive with your own unique style. Graceful scrolls bursting into fans.
Difficulty: New Beginner
Reverse appliqué pattern – Hand & Machine directions
(36" x 36")
Reminiscent of the lines of scrolls and fans, this pattern is part of our medallion pattern series. These reverse appliqué projects are inspired by the scrollwork, gratings and architecture of the late 1800s, from a time when people embraced the idea of beautiful functionality. These quilts make beautiful wall-hangings to add a touch of elegance to your home.
Scroll & Fan also works stunningly as the center piece medallion of a bed-size quilt, as in our Fit for a Queen Quilt III(89” x 89”). When making the quilt, follow the directions in the Quilt Expansion III pattern-Scroll & Fan finishes at 40.5" x 40.5". Add the Quilt Expansion pack if you already have the medallion, or get the Quilt to get the medallion plus all the lovely borders and sashing instructions.
We recently updated our sample using the Hoffman Big Dream “Aurora” Flower panel with spectacular results. Clearly the panels aren’t just for long arming. Stopover in our shop to pick up the panel to go with this pattern by itself or as the center of your Fit for a Queen Quilt III.
